On May 19, 2022, David M. Walsh III, loving husband and father, passed away following a brief but serious illness. He was just a month shy of his 81st birthday. He was born in 1941 to David M. Walsh Jr. and Margaret McGowan Walsh in Brookville, Pennsylvania. After a brief time in Illinois, he graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana. Following graduation, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Claud Jones, a destroyer escort. He participated in the Cuban Blockade and was honorably discharged in 1962.
In December 1964, he married Susan Mary Reisz, and in the ensuing years, they raised three children, Margaret Susan Walsh, Sarah Elizabeth Largent, and David Michael Walsh IV. He worked for a military contractor in San Diego, California and, at the same time, attended San Diego State University, graduating with a degree in accounting. David then worked for a large accounting firm in Los Angeles, California, traveling the world as part of that job. During that time, he became a Certified Public Accountant. He dedicated the remainder of his career to performing internal audits of corporations, which allowed him to continue to travel and see the world.
David loved traveling to exotic locales and photography, bringing home pictures and stories from his travels. He also loved boating and educating others, frequently speaking at continuing education seminars. He held many certifications, including being a Certified Fraud Examiner. Perhaps the sign of an earlier era, he was a good writer and sent many letters to extended family. Despite being a product of a different era, he also loved technology and was frequently an early adopter of new inventions.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Margaret, his in-laws, Aloysius I. Reisz, Sr. and Susan Ward Reisz, as well as his brother Edward Francis and his brothers-in-law Aloysius Ignatius Reisz Jr., Charles Edwin Reisz, and John (Jack) Perry Reisz, and his sister-in-law Margaret Reisz. David is survived by his wife of 57 years; his three children; his son-in-law Kyle Largent; his three grandchildren, Noah, Elizabeth, and Audrey; his in-laws: Andrea Walsh, Bob and Anne Chandler, Jim and Denise Reisz, Tom and Tom Guillermo Reisz, Joe and Mary Reisz, Steve and Gingie Reisz, Carolyn Robledo, and George and Colleen Reisz; his sister Mary Ellen; as well as scores of nieces and nephews and their own children along with friends across the country and around the world.
Anyone who knew David would understand that he hated funerals and did not want one for himself. So a Catholic Mass will be said in his honor on June 4, 2022. He will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.calvaryhilldallas.com for the Walsh family.
