David Shaw was born April 11, 1953, to Ruby Dean Harden Shaw and Horace Shaw in Mountain Home, Idaho. He was the second of six children. David began his education in the Dallas Independent School District and graduated from Wilmer Hutchins High School, Class of 1971. David transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
As a child, David was introduced to sports playing Pop Warner football at 8 years old and he played several sports in Jr. High and High School. David received a football scholarship to attend Prairie View A&M University. In 1974, he was drafted as a free agent by the Dallas Cowboys as a Defensive Back. After playing a season with the Dallas Cowboys, David signed a contract with the Hamilton Tiger Cats where he played from 1975-1982. He played one season with the Minnesota Vikings and returned to the Canadian Football League, playing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1983-1986. He was a 5-time CFL All-Star and Grey Cup Champion in 1984. David retired from the Canadian Football League in 1986. Returning to Dallas after retirement, he found a love for driving trucks and received his CDL license to drive bobtail trucks for several years. David began working for Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church in 2017 as a driver for the Seniors and Food Share. He enjoyed working for the church because he loved people. David never met a stranger and he was always the life of family gatherings.
In 2004, David joined and was baptized at Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church. David met Kathy Williams at a singles conference hosted by the church and it is told by his sisters that when he met her at the conference, he said she was going to be his wife and so it was…they dated and married two years later on September 2, 2006.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Horace Shaw and Ruby Dean Shaw; brother, Horace Shaw Jr.; and grandson, Omarian Frazier.
David leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Kathy Williams Shaw; four beloved children, LaTyshua Hill (Brian), David Shaw, Jr. (Pam), Tara Jeff and Alana Shaw; three sisters, Brindel Tynes (Leon), Linda Mitchell and Kimberly Green (Walter); one brother, Alex Wayne Shaw; eleven grandchildren, Brian II, Brandon, Brodrick, Brittany, Deja, Bailee, Tristan, DeQuarius, David Shaw III, Aria, and Deion, and a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
