David William Gleeson

David William Gleeson died on September 20, 2023 at the age of seventy-nine as the result of cardiac complications and a fall. He was born in Minneapolis on October 6,1943 to William B. and Helena Jacobs Gleeson. David's family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, during his high school years. He was active in sports and student council. David received a B.B.A. in 1965 from SMU, where he was on the Varsity Swim Team. He and Sharon met at SMU and married in 1970.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1966 until 1972. During that time David began his commercial real estate career of more than fifty-five years at the Henry S. Miller Co. where he received the Henry S. Miller, Sr. Award for professional and community service. Later he was a partner at Lincoln Property Co. in charge of apartment acquisitions, then formed Gleeson Realty Advisors, which was acquired by L&B Realty Advisors. David held an executive position there for nineteen years until semi-retirement in 2014. He continued to be active in commercial real estate and associated organizations.

One of David's career highlights was receiving the North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors Stemmons Service Award in 1983. In 2022 he received the NTCAR Lifetime Achievement Award. David's community activities included service on the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce Board; Greater Dallas Crime Commission Board; SMU Mustang Club Board; SMU Cox Business School Advisory Board; SMU Letterman's Association Board; USA Film Festival Board, as president; Texas Film Commission Advisory Board; NTCAR, as chairman; The Real Estate Council (TREC) Board; TREC Foundation and various TREC committees; Dallas Chapter of Counselors of Real Estate, as president; Texans for Lawsuit Reform Advisory Board; St. Phillips Neighborhood Development Corporation, as founding director. He also volunteered as a CASA (court-appointed special advocate) for children and served on the Dallas Affordable Housing Coalition.

He and Sharon were members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. They were active in many organizations and enjoyed their programs, including those of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Dallas Ft. Worth World Affairs Council, Dallas Museum of Art, Meadows Museum, and Chamber Music International. They traveled throughout the country and the world, and David had a passion for skiing, which he continued into his mid-70s.

The greatest joy of his life was to become a father to his two beloved sons, Scott and Brent, and to support them in their activities and goals.

His immediate survivors are Sharon; son, Scott, and his wife, Crystal Rosenthal; and son, Brent, his wife, Nicole, and their children, Tyler, Parker, Ryder, and Walker. David is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Midtvedt and her husband Phil, and by his brother, Larry Gleeson, and a large extended family.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on October 21 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Donations in David's memory, if desired, may be made to the North Texas Food Bank or the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.
