Daniel John Lyke, loving son, father, husband and friend, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022. Dan was like no other. He lived each day to its fullest and by doing so showed everyone who knew him how to do the same.
Dan was born on June 2, 1969, to Joanne Byrne Lyke and William Edward Lyke, Jr., in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1977 and made it his home. Dan graduated from Highland Park High School in 1987. Dan loved Auburn University and received his degree in Business/Operations Management in 1991. He married Molly Hunley Lyke, the love of his life, on June 15, 2002, in New Orleans, LA. Dan is survived by his wife of 20 years, Molly, his three sons, Henry Sheridan, George Holman and John Martin, parents, Joanne Byrne Lyke and William Edward Lyke, Jr., sisters, Jennifer Lyke Sorrells (Chris), Jessica Lyke Jenkins (Camp), Emily Lyke Kleiber and many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Dan.
Dan’s talents were many. He was a master storyteller and could make people laugh until they cried. Dan also never met a stranger. He attracted friends wherever he went through his genuine kindness and interest in other people and the world around him. Dan was a loyal friend and could always be relied on to show up.
One of Dan’s greatest talents was his culinary skills that he generously shared with everyone around him. There was nothing quite like sitting down at a table and enjoying a meal that Dan had lovingly prepared. It wasn’t just the incredible food, it was also the opportunity to be entertained by Dan, to laugh, to listen to the perfect playlist and to be present in his orbit. Everyone was welcome.
Dan reserved his deepest passions and joy for his wife, Molly, and his three sons, Henry, George and Johnny. He poured himself into his marriage and his relationships with his boys. He was immensely proud of his family and he never missed a chance to tell them how much he loved them.
Dan had a long and successful career at Gannett, International Paper and Sylvamo, winning numerous sales awards. Dan knew paper better than anyone, but it was his business relationships that meant the most to him.
Dan will be dearly missed by all. We will honor him by bringing his spirit and memory to each day and remembering what it means to be a good friend. Donations can be made in his honor to scottishriteforchildren.org/donate.
A memorial mass for Dan will be held Monday, October 10, 2022, at 11:00 am at Christ The King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, TX, 75225.
