Not lost or forgotten simply gone from this earthly realm. Free of pain and suffering while basking in the presence of our Lord and Savior. We cannot fathom that you are no longer here with us but we pause to remember your miraculous life. Dad, Big D, Brother, Husband, Uncle, Friend and God -fearing human being. Dan Otis Slack, we honor you today by remembering the kind-hearted and all-around joy of a human being that all who shared your presence were lucky enough to have had the pleasure. No one can/could tell a story like you. The sound effects, scene setting, and the voices of others made us feel like we were in the house with you in Monroe, Louisiana. It was a true rite of passage to sit at your feet and listen to your numerous tales of childhood, sharecropping, praying for rain, singing in your quartet, and recounting stories over again. The memories were vivid and the pictures you painted were vibrant. All of which are a testament to your character.
Born March 23,1950 to the late Rev. Rufus and Minnie Slack one of eleven children and destined to travel the world. Simply mentioning that he was a Vietnam Veteran, Coach, Honorary Sheriff, and all -around Mr. Fix-it limits his true nature and character. He livened up every room he entered and brought peace with him. He was responsible for many a stranger leaving in better spirits, but what he lived for was his family. Whether driving through the night to offer support or lend a helping hand; no job was too difficult. He was amazing. He lived through many medical miracles and his faith never wavered in God. Often, he encouraged others while still harboring his own pain. He is our hero and to quote his late sister-in-law, “They do not make them like Dan Otis anymore.”
