Concha Rivas Islas, 98, passed away September 11, 2024 in Mesquite, Texas. She was born March 13, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to Jose Rivas and Rebecca Garcia. Concha was raised in Little Mexico located in downtown Dallas. She graduated from St. Anne's in Dallas, Texas.
She married Louis Islas in 1971 and worked as a seamstress at Joe Hardy for more than twenty-five years.
She traveled all over the world. She was an amazing dancer and enjoyed spending time at a good casino. She was a fiery woman who enjoyed life to the fullest. Her family and friends would describe her as a firecracker! She had a larger than life personality and always spoke her mind. She could be counted on to always get straight to the point.
She was a strong and independent woman who loved life, her way. She told the best stories about growing up in Mexico. She lived in Guadalajara and came back to the United States at the age of fifteen. She was one of the strongest women I know and I will miss her deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Rivas and Rebecca Garcia; sister, Mercedes; brother-in-law, Nino; son, Gilbert Jara along with her beloved husband, Louis Islas.
Mrs. Islas is survived by her daughters, Alicia Gonzalez, Julia Canales; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
