Coleen K. Shafer Fox, loving wife, bonus mom, grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, and friend suddenly passed from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday evening, July 28, 2021. She was born on April 8, 1955, in Mason, Michigan to Theodore and Margaret Schafer, their fourth child of six children and only daughter.
Coleen was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Margaret Shafer, uncle John Bond, aunt Jan Harrington, and her oldest brother, Michael and his wife, Debbie. Left to mourn, she leaves behind her husband and best friend of 12 years, Steve, of Garland, Texas; step-daughter, Jessica Sackett and husband, Joe, grandchildren Jamie Sackett and Jeran Sackett all of Hutto, Texas; brothers Patrick Shafer and Jeff Shafer of Mason, Michigan, Tim Shafer and wife, Jo of Brandon, Florida, Kevin Shafer and wife, Kieran of Rockford, Michigan; sister-in-law Sue Shafer of Mason, Michigan, aunt Jenny Bond of Mason, Michigan, aunt and uncle Carolyn and Carl Bond of Grand Ledge, Michigan, and aunt Kathy Downing of West Palm Beach, Florida and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Coleen was employed as a bookkeeper for both Maulsby Management and Tiferet Israel Congregation. When not crunching numbers, she enjoyed Texas Rangers baseball and following the Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings hockey teams. Coleen was a voracious reader, and over the years accumulated an impressive book collection. In addition, Coleen was a devout Catholic and volunteered frequently at her church, Saint Patrick Catholic Church, as an usher and sacristan and was a member of Catholic Daughters. She also frequently accompanied Steve with his Knights of Columbus activities, and greatly enjoyed her time with other KC wives.
Coleen’s dry, witty sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was thoughtful and considerate, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary or any other occasion to send a greeting card. She laughed easily, enjoyed being helpful, and was always a pleasure to be around.
