Charles was born August 25, 1935 in Beeville, TX, to John and Sadie Smith, and passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family in Terrell, TX, on November 20, 2014.
Charles was a 55 year member of the Insulators Local 21, and worked for many years as an insulator for various companies. He was also an active member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He was very involved with the program, “Beat the Heat,” in which local youths were encouraged to drag race against the police, rather than illegal street racing. The program also offered support and gifts to battered women and children, which Charles also supported generously.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; brother, Thomas Smith; daughters, Faye Renee Smith, Valerie Lynn Smith, and Robin Kay Atteberry; as well as several Aunts and Uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Smith; daughter, Amy Stokes; 6 Grandchildren; 4 ½ Great-Grandchildren; sister, Sharon Carter; brother, Dennis Stoneking; dear sister-in-law, Peggy Cotten; as well as his extended family members and dear friends. The last to leave his side were his two loving dogs, Cotton and Tiny.
