Charles Clark Jr.

Corky passed away peacefully Monday, August 29, 2011 surrounded by his adoring and loving family.

Corky was born to Charles and Marie Clark in Dallas, Texas on June 5, 1938. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School and Jesuit College Preparatory in Dallas where he excelled in athletics and served as class president his senior year. After football scholarship offers to University of Texas, SMU and Tulane he accepted a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame and completed his studies in 1960 as a Distinguished Military Graduate.

In the fall of 1960, Corky married Beth Neary his first love and high school sweetheart. Together they spent many happy years raising their three children. As a family they enjoyed sailing and spent many memorable summers in South Padre with friends and family until she passed away in the summer of 1983.

In 1984, Corky married Ann Kutner Marron, widow of Tim Marron, and with Ann and Tim’s four children and Beth and Corky’s three children they began their first year of their marriage with the daunting task of seven children in seven different schools.

Corky and Ann shared many happy memories traveling and spending as much time as possible with family and friends at the “Nine of Hearts” their ranch in Bosque County. He was happiest riding the range on his beloved John Deere tractor.

He dearly loved his twelve grandchildren who referred to him as “G-Daddy” and they had many special times with him playing “Which Hand?” and attending sporting events and school plays.

In 1963, Corky joined the family of Olmsted-Kirk Paper Company and served on various committees including Chairman of the Printing Paper Distribution Council of the National Paper Trade. He served as President and Chief Operating Officer until his retirement in 2006 after 43 years of dedicated service. In retirement Corky remained an asset to the company and continued to share his invaluable knowledge, experience and counsel.

Corky proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry, Army Reserve and Texas Army National Guard and resigned his commission in 1969 at the rank of Captain.

Corky was a leader in the Dallas community. He enjoyed his working with many civic organizations. He was a member and former President of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. Corky was on the Board of Councilors for the University of Dallas, the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America Circle Ten Council and a member of the Board of Tartan Classic benefiting Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital. He was also a board member of St. Paul Hospital Foundation, Holy Trinity School Board, Shelter Ministries and Women’s Genesis Center. Corky was a past member of the Board of the Jesuit College Prep Foundation, Jesuit Alumni Lettermen’s Club Board serving as President in 2003-2004 and past member of the Jesuit College Prep Alumni Board where he served as President in 1993. He was the recipient of the Jesuit Prep Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999 and recipient of the Jesuit Alumni Lettermen’s Club “Gold Ranger Award” in 2006. In 2000 Corky received the Notre Dame Club of Dallas Award. He was former Trustee of the Catholic Foundation and served as President 1995-1997. Corky was a member and Vice President of the Board of Sheltered Ministries of Dallas, member of Dallas Country Club, member of the Serra Club of Dallas and a member of Christ the King Parish since 1961 and served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Corky was also a member of the Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and Knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Corky truly embodied goodness with a peaceful nature, loving heart and a fighting Irish Spirit. He was a gentle man who loved his family and friends with great joy.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Beth Clark and his parents Marie and Charles Clark.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 27 years Ann Clark, his beloved children and grandchildren, Karen and her husband John Thompson and their children Sara and Jack; Tim Marron, Jr. and his wife Shelley and their children Tim and Margot; Jennifer and her husband Danny Kearns and their children Lindsay, Clark and Kevin; Mike Marron and his wife Mary and their children Michael and John Henry; Charles “Bubba” Clark; Allyn and her husband Jason Harvey and their three children Benton, Connor and Charlie; and Margaret Ann Marron. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Minnett and her husband Wally; his sister Betsy Clark and his mother-in-law Margaret Kutner.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Robert H. Collins and the compassionate staff at the BMT Clinic UT Southwestern and the caring and loving staff on the seventh floor at Zale Lipshy Hospital.

A Rosary will be said Wednesday, August 31, at 6:30 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75225 and a memorial mass will be held on Thursday, September 1, at 4:30 also at Christ the King Catholic Church. Honorary Pall Bearers will be past presidents of the Salesmanship Club.
