Cathleen (Cathy) Lawrence Philips passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 12, 2024, at the age of 78. She was born on July 14, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Lloyd (Jerry) and Claire Lawrence. Jerry proudly served as a chief warrant officer in the United States Navy, which took the family to Cuba; Washington, DC and Japan before settling in Dallas, Texas. Cathy graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1963 and went on to attend the University of Dallas, where she was one of only two students from the state of Texas to be awarded a Fulbright Grant to study abroad. She studied at the University of Rennes and the Sorbonne University in France. Upon her return to the U.S., Cathy continued her post graduate education at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she also worked for the New Orleans Saints organization.
Missing her family, Cathy decided to return to Dallas where she met and married Dr. Robert (Bob) O. Philips, Jr., on December 24, 1971. Cathy lived an exceptionally full life. She and Bob were avid travelers and spent many trips on the water scuba diving, learning about and enjoying wineries in California and exploring beautiful Italy. Above all, Cathy was a beloved, fiercely loyal daughter, mother and friend. Her other loves included art, music, dancing, sports, attending the horse races, caring for her precious pups and supporting our veterans as a tribute to her hero, her father, Jerry.
Cathy is survived by her daughter, Laura Philips Day and son-in-law, Clint Day of Star, Idaho; her two bonus sons, Robert O. Philips, III, of Holly Springs, Mississippi and William Philips and daughter-in-law Tiffany Philips of La Jolla, California; Robert’s two children, Anne Chandler Philips and Robert O. Philips, IV; and her loving pup, Toby.
Fly high beautiful angel. Your memory will forever live in our hearts.
