Carroll was born on March 14,1924 in Bellmeade, Tx., just outside of Waco, to father, Ernest Price Waugh and mother Clara Mann Waugh. She moved with her family to Dallas at an early age. She was a wife, homemaker, and mother before joining the workforce as a Sales Associate at The Big World Store in the early 60's. By the mid-60's, she began working at Dal-Tile in Dallas until she retired in the early 90's.
But, back in the early days, Carroll enjoyed the Big Band Music or the 40's and spent many fun times dancing the night away at the Blue Room with the love of her life, husband, Ray Edwin Hickey. Through the 60's, 70's, and 80's, both Carroll and Ray had some really good times with their friends in the Hella Temple Shriners Drum and Bugle Corps.
After losing Ray in 1987, Carroll began travelling with daughter Peggy and son and daughter-n-law, Ron and Jannie Hickey, along with friends Mario and June Arellano. Some of her happiest times were spent on cruise ships and docking in various and exotic ports-of-call... including stops in Alaska, Mexico, Central America, as well as many beautiful islands in the Caribbean. For her 80th birthday, family surprised her with the "cruise of a lifetime" when they visited several Caribbean islands before heading to the Canary Islands, sailing past the Rock of Gibraltar to Casablanca, Barcelona, Genoa, and Rome, Italy.
Carroll loved her church family, where she has been a member since 1988. She was especially proud of the fact that at age 94, she was still able to serve in her Usher/Greeter group, until being sidelined with a fractured wrist in early February of this year. So many of you saw her smiling face at the 8:45 Service every Sunday.
She loved her family, including daughter, son and daughter-n-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved her friends and she was a member of the Dallas Arboretum, where she especially enjoyed the Autumn at the Arboretum event every year. Also, anyone who knew her, knew that she absolutely loved attending Concerts by her favorite band, The Eagles!
Carroll is preceded in death by husband, Ray Hickey. She is survived by daughter, Peggy Hickey, son, Ron Hickey (Jannie), niece, Barbara Laxson (Joel), Nephew, Jack Hickey (Sandra), Grandchildren are Kristine Schipper (Martin), Steve Hickey, Jamie Holloway (Lance), and Joni Woods (Ryan). Great grandchildren are Bobby Sessum, Corey Sessum, Brendan Holloway, Karissa Holloway, Gracie Holloway, Lauren Holloway, Devin Mount, Miles Hicks, and Ethan Hicks.
If desired, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church - Dallas, Music Department.
