Carmen Martinez, age 106, was the oldest of 13 children. She passed away on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 07, 2018 surrounded by her loving surviving sister, Teresa Martinez, Sister in Law Maria and numerous nieces and nephews. Other surviving members are; brother Reynaldo Martinez, Sister in Law Maria Martinez wife of her late husband Bernardo Martinez, nieces, Maria Evangelina Armendariz, Margarita Juarez, Beatrice Perez, Minerva Gomez and Sister Carmen Therese Lazo (Ciria) Esperanza Brown, Dolores Leal, Maria Cristina Lopez, Josefina Hernandez, Nancy Benavides, Martha Martinez; nephews, Tom Lazo, Steve Martinez, Bernardo Martinez, Sammy Martinez and Hector Martinez and numerous great nephews an nieces in Dallas, Texas. She was born September 03, 1911 in the State of Guanajuato, Mexico to Andres Martinez and Dolores Barrajas. In 1917, Carmen and her parents migrated to Texas, living a year in Laredo, before moving to San Antonio, then settling in Dallas, Texas. Carmen grew up in what was then called Cement City, El Cemento Chico in the early 1900. Carmen worked at Nardis of Dallas as a master seamstress from 1943 until she retired in 1977. Loving to sew, Carmen spare time's was spent making beautiful outfits for her nephews and nieces whom she greatly loved. In addition, to her gifts and talents being used for the family, she dedicated long hours of service to her church, Sta. Teresita, where she spent long hours serving in various capacities. Her love of God, family, friends and neighbors had no limits. She was a devoted associate of the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence in San Antonio, TX. Her family and friends will always remember her as a woman of prayer, deep faith and unwaivering service to others. She will be remembered for her strong family values and for the many blessings she bestowed and her legacy of love and service. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Dolores Martinez, sisters, Eduvijes, Luciana, Ma. del Carmen Lazo; brothers, Jesus and Manuel (twins), Domingo, Ramon, Bernardo, and Tranquilino; sister-in-laws, Julia and Amelia Martinez. Nephews and nieces, Raymond, Raul, Norma, Andres (Andy), Miguel Andres (Michael), Yolanda, and Richard. May they all rest in peace.
