Deacon Carey Tucker, Sr., accepted Christ at an early age. He graduated from Gibbons High School in Paris, Texas. Upon graduation, he served in the Armed Forces. He met, fell in love with, and married Mae Ella Jones Tucker on April 2, 1949, and to this beautiful union six children were born. Carey and Mae moved to Dallas, Texas, where they joined Bexar St. Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. L. Robinson, where Carey served on the Deacon Board.
Led by the Holy Spirit, Carey and Mae united with Mt. Tabor Baptist Church under the Leadership of the late Rev. Floyd D. Harris, and present leadership of Dr. Stephen C. Nash, Sr., where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for over thirty years. Carey remained a faithful disciple until the Lord called him from Labor to reward.
On Sunday, September 23, 2018, Deacon Tucker peacefully made a transition from this earthen vessel, to spend eternity with the Lord. He was welcomed into his eternal home by his daughter, Karen Hampton; granddaughter, Katrice Acox; two sisters, Lorine Hurd and Ruth Stephens; and two brothers, Leroy Tucker, Jr., and Raymond Tucker.
Carey leaves his memories of love to his devoted wife of sixty-nine years, Mae Tucker; five children, Shirley Bowers (Wayman), Gwendolyn Walker (Gary), Carey Tucker, Jr. (Gail), Altrina Branch (Brian) and Byron Tucker (Trina); fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Eva Tucker; a brother-in-law, Leville Stephens; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
