Betty Miller

Betty Miller left the confines of this world on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 86 years old. She was born in Alleene, AR, on November 25, 1936 to Gertrude Margaret Ward and James Thornton Seastrunk and enjoyed a happy childhood, although her father passed away when she was 10. Betty never lost her love for nature and small, close communities.

After marrying Sidney F. Rawlins in 1957, they moved to Dallas, Texas, to set up their new household.

Daughter, Diane, soon arrived followed by their son, David, in 1958. Betty loved doing fun things with her children and always said that she grew up along with them. She taught them to appreciate the beauty found in nature, the wonders of animals, and took them on picnics, to the lake or pool for swimming, miniature golf, vacation bible schools, and the library. She also loved to play sports and shared basketball and badminton with her family.

Betty obtained her GED when she was 50 years old and always emphasized the importance of education for her children. When her children reached 12 and 11 years, she returned to work part-time for awhile and then full-time in the nearest K-Mart Business Office. After leaving K-Mart, Betty worked for years in the DeSoto ISD in the nutrition area.

After Betty married Ron Miller in 1981, they settled down in Cedar Hill, Texas, and enjoyed going to area lakes using their boat. They traveled as much as possible, going to Iowa to visit relatives, and Colorado. As they got older, they obtained a small RV as a vacation spot and settled it in Hickory Hills, on Callender Lake near Athens, Texas. After retiring, they moved down to Hickory Hills full time. Many happy family memories occurred at their retirement property.

Late in 2017, due to health concerns, she moved back to Dallas and lived with her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Sophia. She went regularly to visit her daughter and her husband, Jerry, so she could enjoy the country. Betty leaves behind her two children and their spouses, six grandchildren (David E., Eva, Amanda, Jacob, Eric and Sara), and 11 great-grandchildren, all living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Betty also has many friends from her years spent in East Texas.

As we say farewell to her for now, some of her attributes we most admired was her kindness, generosity, love for animals, and her love of games. She would go out of her way to help others, often when she had very little herself. Betty loved a good laugh and enjoyed having company and visits. She will be missed.
