Annette Askew Gibboney, 89, of The Woodlands, Texas, formerly of Dallas, Texas, passed away December 5th, 2023. She was born in Tyler, Texas on Wednesday, July 18th, 1934, to Henry Garrison Askew and Natalie Ilma Askew.
Annette attended University Park Elementary school, where she eventually returned to teach for 29 years. She graduated from Highland Park High School and later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with her master’s degree in education. She is as a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority. After graduating, she married and began a teaching career in Fairborn, Ohio. After 10 years, she moved back to her beloved hometown of Dallas, Texas.
Annette was a Junior AAU State Champion Backstroke swimmer and University Park Teacher of the Year 1993 – 1994.
She was a member of the Park Cities Baptist Church and particularly loved the Single Adults Group; in addition, she was a member of the “Daughters of the Republic of Texas”. Annette had a passion for teaching, learning and reading. She particularly enjoyed traveling with colleagues from University Park Elementary. She loved people, and had lifelong friendships with both teachers and students, as well as her most recent friend Justice.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, older brother Gary Garrison Askew, her sister-in-law Mary Alice Askew-Bergman, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her daughter Mindy Poteet, with her husband Bob Poteet, her grandson Stephen Howard, with his partner Alisha Jessee, her granddaughter Natalie “Bri” Rowland, with her partner Chris Linn, her brother James L. Askew with his wife, Ann Askew, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will take place from 5:30-7:30 pm Friday, December 15; Funeral service will begin at 10am Saturday, December 16, both at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225.

Cassandra was Annette’s end of life caretaker and the donations will finance a new caretaking home to continue her work in aiding with the peaceful transition of end of life and elderly care.
