Ann Shannon Gibbons

Ann was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Mary Shannon Mendenhall and Edgar Hewes Mendenhall. Soon after, the family moved to Dallas and settled in University Park where Ann attended University Park Elementary School and graduated from Highland Park High School. She graduated from Southern Methodist University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She met her future husband Bob Gibbons on the campus of SMU and they both graduated from SMU in 1951. Following graduation Ann taught 3rd grade in Corpus Christi for a year and then returned to Dallas. In the summer of 1953 she and Bob were married while he was in Medical School. They were blessed with 5 children and 64 wonderful years together with many happy memories of family and lifelong friends.

Through the years Ann was active in various civic and cultural organizations, including The Junior League of Dallas, The Dallas Symphony League, and The Dallas Opera. She was a member of The Dallas Women’s Club, The Dallas Garden Club, and the Dallas Country Club.

Ann is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Dr. Raymond Robert Gibbons, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hewes Mendenhall. She is survived by her children Bob Gibbons and his wife Nancy, David Gibbons and his wife Louise, Cynthia Davey and her husband Tom, Michael Gibbons, and Mary Gibbons, as well as 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Shannon Mendenhall and his wife Jean.

She was a devoted and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a very loving and caring Mom to us all and we will miss her very much, but know that she is now at peace, and with her husband our Dad in Heaven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 29th at 10:00 at Calvary Hill Chapel, with a reception immediately following at Calvary Hill. A private family burial will follow in the afternoon.
