It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Anamarija Wagner, age 63, of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Anamarija passed away surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with Metastatic Endometrial Cancer (MMMT) in Dallas, Texas on March 11, 2023.
Anamarija was born on November 21, 1959 in Subotica, Serbia (Former Yugoslavia). At the Age of 7 Anamarija immigrated along with her parents to Halifax Nova Scotia where her mother and father chose to start a new life in Canada.
Anamarija had a passion for understanding and telling other people’s stories. This led her to a job in the field of broadcasting and journalism before embarking on a career as an Immigration Officer at Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). It was there she found her true passion of helping families from outside Canada, settle and immigrate to Canada to start a new life, just as she did when she was in her younger years.
In the later years of her life, she cherished the time, advice and companionship of Michael Theriault, Janet Fralick and David MacGillivray. She also enjoyed painting, writing, photography and helping families in need. Some of her most enjoyable moments were going to Peggy’s Cove and listening to the sound of the ocean.
Anamarija was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jeno and Anna Wagner, she is survived by her son John Brancela, Sister Elizabeth (Wagner) Snyder, and Brother Jeno Wagner along with countless nieces and nephews and extended family.
Her Son John Brancela would like to extend special thanks to The T. Boone Pickens Center for Hospice and Palliative Care Center and especially the nurses and staff who took the utmost care in providing comfort to his mother in the final days of her life, he cannot thank them enough.
