She is survived by her husband Milton Gore of 65 years, her daughters, Deborah (Bill) Cassidy, Becky (Willis) Bedsaul, grandchildren Drew (Chelsea) Cassidy, Meagan (Chris) Lenertz, Jacqueline Bedsaul, her beloved great grandchildren Ella Grace, Reagan, Wren and Altan, her brother Sam Jenkins II, and sisters Ella (Otis) Gore and Shirley (Charles) Dodson, as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents McKinley and Esther Jenkins and siblings Katherine Estes, Gladys Compton, Roy Jenkins, McKinley Jenkins, Lucy Johnson, Francis Ryan and Hugh Verne Jenkins.
She was loved, adored, and cherished by her family and many friends. She spent her life serving her family, church, and community. She was a woman of God with a deep faith. She was a lifetime member of Bethel Baptist Church where she took pride and joy teaching Sunday School, serving on the flower, social, benevolent, and nominating committees. She was a member of the Shiloh Association as her church’s representative.
She served her community as a founding member and volunteer of the Reva Volunteer Fire and Rescue, volunteered for over 10 years as a Culpeper Memorial Hospital Pink Lady and served as a 4-H leader.
Betty Lou was a master seamstress by trade using her talents to create lovely clothes, English riding pants and bridesmaids’ dresses. She used her gift of sewing and crafts to make beautiful, unique flowers for her grandchildren’s weddings. She worked for H&R Block for over 20 years as their Client Services Coordinator where she always greeted everyone with kindness and a smile.
She was quick to offer a hand to help anyone she encountered and was a second mom to many close friends and family. She never said a harsh word and had an amazing ability to spread kindness to everyone in her path. She was deeply loved and was actively involved in her grandchildren’s lives. She attended their sporting events and was their most avid cheerleader. She loved her great grandchildren and often made them cookies and read them bedtime stories.
Betty Lou was a beautiful person inside and out. Her legacy and example will leave a lasting impression for many generations to come. There will be a celebration of life held at Bethel Baptist Church, Reva VA 22735 on Friday December 3rd at noon. Her family will receive friends and family at 11am. Graveside services and a reception will follow at the church. The family has requested that masks be worn during all scheduled ceremonies due to unvaccinated children attending.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the excellent care she received from her doctors and medical team at Henrico Doctors Hospital.
