Funeral services for Mary Evelyn Burrow 91 of Cullman will be at First Baptist Church of Cullman on Thursday March 31, 2011 at 2:00 P. M. Dr. Edwin Hayes will officiate, and Moss Service Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville, AL.
The viewing and visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Cullman.
Mrs. Burrow passed away Tuesday March 29, 2011 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born February 22, 1920 to Charles Edward and Pearl Hamilton.
Mrs. Burrow and her husband owned and managed the Palomino Restaurant and Motel for 28 years in Cullman. They also built, owned, and managed the Holiday Inn for 20 years. She was active in the community, served in the Business Professional Women’s Organization and was recently recognized and inducted into the Academy of Honor for the state BPW.
In 2004 she donated her lifelong antique collection to Wallace State Community College. This fine collection, which was the largest endowment of its kind given to a state community college served as a catalyst for a new Fine and Performing Arts Facility on the campus at Wallace State Community College. The center is named the Burrow Fine Arts Center in honor of Mrs. Burrow and her late husband, Ottis Burrow. She also was on the founding committee for the Future Foundation Scholarship committee and has served on the Board of Directors for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years Ottis Burrow, her parents and five brothers: Walter Cordell Hamilton, Noah Hamilton, Edward Hamilton, Sam Hamilton, and P.O. Hamilton and five sisters: Melba Hamrick, Lillie Murphree Roberson, Addie Pitts, Edna Roselle Edge and Josephine Weeks.
She is survived by a sister, Lola Hamilton Bradford of Florence, Alabama and the following nieces and nephews: Sandra Finn (Leo),Karan Smith (Daniel),Deborah McAfee (Danny),Ronnie Hamilton, James Edge (Sandra),Carol Kay Bradford, Laura Leigh Chandler, Jackie Porter (Barney), Shirley Stephenson (Bruce),Estelle Bone (John Ed),Willodean McKenzie, Sue Carol Farris (John) Peggy Loudermilk (Bobby), Harold Dean Pitts (Judith), Martha Crews, Evelyn Marie Weeks, L. Laverl Bradford II, Billy Bradford (Judy), Johnny Hamrick (Diane) Page Greer (Brian), Cindy Holland, Jerry Burrow (Jo), Bobbi Diaz (Butch), Geraldine Guthery (Horace), and Robert Hamilton (Pat).
Other nephews serving as pallbearers are John Burrow, Leo Finn, Jeff James, Jerry James, Johnny Hamrick, Randy Bates, Jackson Cook, Wayne Cook, and Perry Brown.
