Richard "Dick" H. Johnson

He was born September 9, 1932 in Crystal Lake to J. Elmer and Irene (Schiffer) Johnson. Dick was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He earned a Purple Heart serving in the Korean Conflict. On February 19, 1955 he married Mary Becker St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake. After their marriage, he and his wife were dairy farmers for a few years. Dick then became a member of the Local 2087 Carpenter’s Union for over 50 years.

When he was not working, Dick was an avid reader. He spent a great deal of time at the Crystal Lake Public Library. He also enjoyed bird watching, crosswords, and cheering on the Chicago White Sox.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Susan Sebastian, Christine Johnson, Cathy (Chris Nelson) Johnson, and Joseph Johnson; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt) Johnson and Dylan Fraase; great-grandchildren, Dayne and Gavin Johnson; and his siblings, Joan Wilbur, Tom (Shirley) Johnson, and Margaret (Chuck) Leahy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Norman Johnson, Mary Bacon, and Rose Sippel; and sons, Michael and Peter Johnson.

Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm on Monday, July 20 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
