She was born March 12, 1946 in Jacksonville, FL to Leroy and Edith (Rotzoll) Young. She grew up in Palatine and was a longtime resident of Arlington Heights. She graduated in 1964 and worked as a CNA for over 40 years. After she retired, she volunteered for Hospice of Northeastern Illinois. She enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, and watching the Bears. Family was very important to Laurel, and she will be remembered as a thoughtful, giving, caring woman with a strong personality and a good sense of humor. She was tough, but she had a huge heart.
She is survived by her domestic partner, Karen Sellers; her sons, Tom (Krisah) and Jerry Herron; her grandchildren, George and Kaytee; her siblings, Michael (Gail) Young, Patrick (Diane) Young, Steve Young, and Kathleen (Dave) Young-Howard; her brother-in-law, Russ Thrun; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Tracy Young-Thrun and Judith Young-Mettner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8 from 2pm to 6pm at the Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The funeral service will follow at 6pm.
