IN THE CARE OF
Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens
Our dear mother passed away from complications of COVID and advanced age on April 30, 2024. She was 95 years old.
Myra Jeanne (her full first name) was born on March 18, 1929, in LaPorte, IN to Polish immigrants, Evangeline Blanda and Micheal Wojcik. Her family moved to Chicago, IL, where she eventually graduated from a nurses’ training program and met and married Richard Kenneth Gougeon. Before having children, Myra Jeanne worked as a nurse at St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, IN. Once the children were school age, she worked (until retirement) the lunch shift at Aurelio’s Pizza in Hammond, IN. Her most valued job, however, and the job at which she excelled, was that of being a supportive and loving mother to her three children, Richard Mark (Ricky), Paul Christopher (Paulie), and Andrea Kay (Missy).
After 54 years of marriage, Myra Jeanne’s husband died in 2009. She is survived by her children, their spouses, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She loved singing, reading, competing at family card and word games, and watching her favorite TV shows, Rockford Files, Wheel of Fortune, and NCIS. She was known by all for her unwavering kindness, compassion, and good cheer. She was a friend to all she encountered.
A Celebration of Life service for Myra Jeanne Gougeon will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:30 AM, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
