Obituary of John D Stockham
JOHN STOCKHAM CROWN POINT, IN John Stockham, age 89, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; children: Dr. Charles (Bridget) Stockham of Columbia, MD, Debra Stockham of Manitou Springs, CO, Dr. Randall (Julie) Stockham of Murray, UT, Dr Teri Stockham of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Laura (Randall) Bartlett of Woodbridge, VA, and Linda Heino of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren: Cara (Will) Campbell, Andrew (Jessica) Stockham, Brady Stockham, Aaron (Shira) Stockham, Alex (Laura) Stockham, Sarah (Erik) Lutkus, John Clark Bartlett, Chris (Katie) Joseforsky, Melissa (Jason) Burt, and Kymberley Joseforsky; three great granddaughters; and one great grandson. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Linda (Mike) Orlich; brother-in-law, Howard Kirk; nephew, Chuck Stockham; nieces: Susan Stockham, Betsy (Mike) Connell, Sharon (Randy) Mills, Brandy Kirk, and Shannon Kirk; and many great nieces and nephews. Mr. Stockham was a graduate of Washington Park High School in Racine, WI, University of Wisconsin, and the Illinois Institute of Technology. He served in WWII in the 8th AF as a B17 Lead Navigator for the 447th Bomb Group. He was awarded the Air Medal with five OLC, The Purple Heart and The ETO Campaign Ribbon with three battle stars. Mr. Stockham was employed at Standard Oil as a Chemist, at IIT Research Institute as a Manager of Fine Particle Research and at the Environmental Protective Agency as Chief of Toxic Substances. He was a member of the committee that brought Little League Baseball to Highland and served as chief umpire. Later he organized the girl's softball league in Highland and coached the girl's traveling team. He served as Cub Master at Johnston Elementary School and as a volunteer at Community Hospital. His joys were his family, friends, golf with the Amoco Golf Group and the Green Bay Packers of which he was part owner. John will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, 12:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, IN). Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
