Helen E. Berfield Funk

Helen E. Funk (nee Berfield), age 103, of Munster, IN passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014. She is survived by her loving children: Beverly (Tom Marlow) Mahns and William (Thelma) Funk; son in law, Don Kiger; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Funk was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; and daughter, Judith Kiger. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., (one-half mile south of U.S. 30) Schererville, IN, with Ron Rhyne officiating from the S.C. Church. Friends are invited to meet with the family Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Mrs. Funk was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Munster, IN. She received a college education and taught school for many years. She volunteered many hours as a member of the Sr. Artisans Guild Shop in Munster where she sold her crafts, as well as others. Helen was formerly employed at Edward C. Minas in Hammond, IN. She also enjoyed dancing, playing games, especially pinochle. Helen's family would like to give a special thanks to Cedar Creek Health Campus and Harbor Light Hospice for their outstanding caregivers, nurses and staff.
