Fred Milton Matthews age 96, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Dorothy Matthews; children, Brenda (Mark) Mason, Virginia (late Kenneth) Higgins, Charles (Betty) Matthews, Fred (Flor) Matthews Jr., Jewell Flores and John (Vickey) Matthews; grandchildren, Kenneth (Meganne) Gillam, Shannon (late Donald) Mills, Scott Gillam, Steven (Angie) Higgins, Curtis Higgins, Jennifer (Michael) Topolski, Darren (fiancé Roxanne) Higgins, Jeffrey (Tricia) Matthews, Lisa (Harry) Mabs, Deanna (Arthur) Fowler, Elton (Nicole) Roberts and Kimberly (Matt) Matthews; 31 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceded in death by siblings, William, Walter, Gilbert, Frank, Elizabeth, Ethel and Charles.
Fred was born November 9, 1923 in Rash Alabama to the late John and Lizzy Matthews. On December 21, 1944 he married the love of his life Dorothy Curtis and together they raised 6 children. Fred retired from American Maize with over 30 years of service. His life was full of music and he would often be seen picking his guitar and playing many other instruments.
Fred was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great-grandfather and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) with Pastor James Williams officiating.
Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 2:00-6:00 PM and on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
