Edward (Eddie) James McBride, age 56, of Schererville, IN, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, October 5, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 20, 1968 in Hammond, IN. Eddie lived in Schererville for most of his life. He attended Lake Central High School, but ultimately graduated from Gavit High School in 1987. Prior to leaving on disability, he worked for the City of Hammond in the water and sanitation department for more than 30 years. As a gentle giant, Eddie’s kind nature and accepting spirit earned him countless friendships. His enthusiasm for hot rods, summer car shows, Harley Davidsons, and the Sturgis motorcycle rallies in South Dakota added to his unique charm. Eddie’s devotion to God deepened and we take comfort in his heavenly reunion and we rejoice knowing he’s with God.
Eddie is survived by his son, Edward Ryan McBride; mother, Kathleen Lakatos; father, Edward F. McBride; sister, Paula McBride; brother, Michael McBride (Diane Diehl); nieces, Kory Fletcher (Josh) and Haley McBride; uncle, James Lakatos (Gail); cousin, Rhonda Goodwin (Will); dearest friends, Brett Burrell, Johnny Cantrell, Gary Noblest, Brett Grooms and Roddy Bohling; and too many more to name. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Dorothy and Solomon Lakatos; great-grandmother, Josephine Hanyzewski; aunt, Beverly Lakatos; and cousin, Ryan Lakatos.
Deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Terri Faught for her compassionate care, culinary support and tireless efforts that brought solace to Eddie during his illness. Sincere recognition and admiration to Elaine Hall whose remarkable dedication in supporting Eddie from afar has been a shining example of compassion from a true friend.
