Obituary of Cynthia Mae Starkey
Cynthia Mae Starkey (nee Gidcumb), age 64, passed away on the morning of Monday, November 18, 2024. Cindy was a dear wife, the best mother, and an even better grandmother, a wonderful sister and a loving friend. Cindy was born and raised in Hammond, IN, where she attended Morton High School. She met & married David Starkey and they moved to Dyer, IN, where they raised their two children, Bob and Sara. Cindy was fully dedicated to raising her children, whether it was being a room parent in elementary school or a tireless cheerleader for the various passions of her children, her focus never drifted from being everything her family needed. While raising a family, Cindy found time to pick up jobs; she worked at the Star Plaza Theatre for over a decade, at Walgreens, where her beloved sister Cheryl worked, and in food services at Lake Central Schools. She loved giving back to the community and was proud of her service with the Red Cross. Her time at the First Christian Church in Dyer was spent building lifelong friendships and planning and hosting countless fellowship events. These parties were so special to her and will be a fond memory for all who had an opportunity to attend one of them. She loved her holidays, parties, and family gatherings. Her day was complete when she would cook a meal, decorate for a holiday, and share in the laughter of her family and friends. Few things made her happier than planning over-the-top easter egg hunts or crafting a themed birthday party for one of her children. Cindy is survived by her loving husband, Dave; their children, Robert (Rebecka) Starkey, and Sara (Jake) Owens; her grandson, Liam Starkey; her brothers, Edward and David and their spouses; and numerous nieces and nephews. She joins in heaven her parents, Larry & Betty Gidcumb; and her beloved sister, Cheryl. A memorial gathering will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307 on Monday, November 25th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm, with a service lead by Randy Harrison at 6:00 pm. Her memory will be cherished by those who knew her. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapelLawnFunerals.com for the Starkey family.
