Obituary of Amelia Mary Geraci
Amelia “Millie” Mary (Knazur) Geraci, 85, passed away peacefully at her home of sixty-five years on July 22, 2021 after a long-fought battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Amelia was born on August 11, 1935 to John and Mary Knazur in Whiting, IN. Amelia is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Geraci, parents, John and Mary Knazur, brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe (Ann) Knazur, John (Stella) Knazur, Santa (Richard) Dwyer, Gerri Geraci, and her mother-in-law, Jean Dodge. Amelia is survived by her loving sons, Jeffrey (Annette) Geraci and Gene (Ginny) Geraci, cherished grandchildren, Stephanie (Travis) Lechien, Sarah Geraci, Megan (Jacob) Lewis, Alyssa Geraci, Lyndsay Geraci, and Ann (Nick) Garibay, great-grandchildren, Jade, Mila, and Logan, brother-in-law Wayne Geraci, many nieces and nephews, and her dog, Daisy. Amelia met the love of her life, Bob, at the age of sixteen, and they married on September 10, 1955. Millie and Bob traveled the country together, often visiting state and national parks. Millie became an avid traveler, traveling to all fifty states and several other countries, while also making frequent trips to Disney World and Disneyland. She passed on her desire to explore and tradition of Disney vacations to her sons and grandchildren, who now carry her traveling spirit with them and are dedicated to passing the same love on to her great-grandchildren. Millie began her career at Standard Oil as a secretary following her high school graduation in 1953. In 2000, she retired from Administrative Procedures, now known as Stewart C. Miller and Company, Inc., where she spent thirty years guiding local union members into retirement. Amelia was devoted to her Roman Catholic faith and was an active member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. She had a deep love for animals, but especially for dogs. She consistently donated to several charities and volunteered at her church and the local hospital. Millie was extraordinary. Although her patience shined bright, her kindness did not come without sass. She demonstrated her stubbornness often by sticking her tongue out at others. No one could forget her attempts to always keep her hair dry and refusal to leave the house in the summertime without a kitchen dish towel to bat the mosquitoes away. Her quirky antics and contagious laughter filled every room with happiness. Amelia’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family, where she proudly filled her titles “Mother”, “Grandma”, and “Triple G” (Great Grandma Geraci). She loved hosting family dinners, often making her famous baked beans, Swedish meatballs, and grandma Jell-O. Millie encouraged all her grandchildren to pursue college degrees and travel the world. When she was not donating her time to others, Millie enjoyed gardening, club, western movies, and, of course, chocolate. In recent years, Millie's faithful companion, her Boston Terrier (nicknamed "Boston Terror"), Daisy, kept her young. Amelia will be dearly missed by everyone lucky enough to know her, as to know her was to know you were loved. Friends and Family are encouraged to join in remembering Amelia at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Crown Point, IN on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 3-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Cedar Lake, IN on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 10am. Amelia loved flowers; however, if one wishes to make monetary donations in her honor, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or ASPCA.
