Michael T. Hackett of Croton-on-Hudson, NY passed away on December 6, 2022. He was 78 years old. Mike was born on January 19, 1944 in Manhattan to the late Ellen and John Hackett, and was raised in The Bronx.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Pat Hackett; his three children, Michael J. Hackett (Leah Bleakley and grandson Jack Hackett), Ellen Gerace (Chris Gerace and children) and Aaron Thompson, his brother John Hackett (Jeanne Hackett) and sister Gerry Hackett (Geoff Blandy). He had many brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews and not to forget his beloved family dog, Allie.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Ellen and Jack Hackett and his sister Ellen (Lynn) Doughty.
Through his life he had many titles, having had been an Army Veteran; working a 30 year career with Verizon and when he retired, then worked part time for the Croton Police Department as a school crossing guard for more than 15 years. He was known as a tinker; fixer of all things, philosopher and most of all as someone to rely on and go to for support. In his company, you would hear stories, jokes, and get a glimpse into his big heart. His contagious laugh and warm smile had an effect on everyone he knew. He had a profound sense of serenity, an unwavering faith, unconditional acceptance and heartfelt gratitude for the love of his family and friends. He wanted it known that he did not “fight” cancer rather he accepted his “situation” and focused on the power of NOW, living each day to the fullest. He treasured the simple things in life and being of service to others. His creed was to “Do the right thing and Thy will, not mine, be done.” May he forever Rest In Peace. We love you.
