Mary Jane was born December 16th 1948 to John and Hulda Rapp (nee Slack) in Queens and grew up in Ossining. She moved to Croton in 1971.
MJ held a degree in special education and working with children brought her a lot of joy. She also worked for the Croton-on-Hudson Recreation Department for 25 years. She enjoyed making ceramics and beaded jewelry, cooking, taking care of her plants and playing scrabble. Her life was filled with music, and all who remember her most fondly remember her dancing.
She will be deeply missed by her husband and best friend, Glenn C. Smiton. She is survived by two beloved daughters, Jessica May and Rebecca Grabowski, and an adoring step-son Jeremy Smiton. She also leaves behind a sister, Jo-Ann Murphy, and two grandsons, Liam and Oliver Glynn.
