Mary Ellen McGill, 69, passed away Monday, February 11th, at her home after a long illness. Mary was a 1967 graduate of Charleston Catholic High School and a 1972 graduate of General Hospital School of Nursing. She later went on to earn her First Assistance Certification in which she took great pride. Mary Ellen was a proud O.R. nurse at CAMC General Division for over 35 years. There she was known for her hard work and dedication to her patients and colleagues. Mary Ellen was a friend, and mentor. Her invaluable skills as a nurse not only served this community but also the people she was blessed to work with. Although she retired in 2017, she will be greatly missed at the hospital. Mary Ellen’s dedication to her children and grandchildren could be seen by all that knew her. She was an avid reader, loved making anything with chocolate and watching British television shows. She was known for her sewing skills and could always be called upon to make a fabulous Halloween costume. Her admiration of elephants was well known and she was gifted with many over her 69 years. Holidays were her favorite and she loved to celebrate with family. Mary Ellen was one of a kind.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Mary Kessler (Charleston) and her beloved son Stephen Edward McGill, whom she missed deeply. Mary Ellen is survived by her girls, Laura McGill(Wally Given) of Nitro, Maureen Kidd(Noah) of Cross Lanes, Ann Grishaber (Robert) of Charleston; her brothers John Kessler(Pam) of Cross Lanes, George Kessler(Gail) of South Charleston; her sisters Betsy Ranson (Jerry) of Ripley, and Susan Kessler of Cross Lanes, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; countless cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
