Went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 07/05/2016 after a long illness.
Claude was born January 6th, 1926 to the late Claude H. Powell, Margie Berry Powell Rumbaugh, a lifelong resident of South Charleston WVa.
Married to Betty L. Lowther Powell South Charleston of 69 years with three children, son Dale Rader Powell (Bonnie) daughter Barbara Jean Powell Siemiaczko (Alan) son Claude Wayne Powell (Kimberly)
Claude is preceded in death by his step father Marion Francis Rumbaugh, sisters Edna Powell Keener, Francis Rumbaugh Snodgrass, brother John C. Rumbaugh and brother in law - best friend and camping buddy Martin Smith Keener.
He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy and saw some war time action on board the Navy Escort Ship - V.E. Johnson .
Claude retired from Union Carbide with 45 years of service in the electrical field as an electrician, electrical supervisor and the last years as contract technical support in the power distribution department.
Claude did not know a stranger, a friend to everyone, loved to make people smile, always joking. He loved giving gold dollars as tips when eating out.
Aside from his wife and children he will also be missed by his younger brother Victor Warren Rumbaugh and wife Sandy of St. Albans, nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Claude was a member and attended Springhill Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized.
Funeral service will begin at 2:00 with Pastor Dean Chambers officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held, Friday, July 8, 2016 from 12:00 noon to time of service at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes.
Burial will follow with military graveside rites at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Hubbard Hospice house 1001 Kennawa Drive, South Charleston West Virginia 25309.
