Charlie was loved by many and never met a person who didn’t fast become a friend. He would drop anything he was doing to help a friend or family member. His energy, strength, care, compassion, and overall activity level was unmatched and impressive to anyone who knew him. His well known quips and “Charlieisms” was endeared by all and will be remembered by all who knew him. Everybody has a good “Charlie McLane” story.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anna Mae, infant son, Bruce, brothers, Paul, David, Offie, and sisters, Margaret Kessel, Arbutus Leach, Virginia Stephens.
Charlie was a strong Christian and decades long very active member of the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church. Charles was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1993 after 27 successful years at Union Carbide. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from West Virginia State University in 1979. Charles was a pillar of the Cross Lanes Community. He served as a baseball coach for the Cross Lanes Little League, Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 68, volunteer for Contact Crises Center, organizer of the Cross Lanes Volunteer Ambulance Authority, and layman of the year for the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church in 1971 and 2013. Charles was a 50 year member of Kanawha Valley Lodge No 36 A.F. & A.M.
