Hannah Rose Rainey

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Joshua Grygiel; her parents, Christina Gerlach (Jon Mooney) and Christopher Rainey and her brothers, Caden and Bryce Rainey and Tyler (Michelle) Mooney.

She also leaves behind her aunt Beckey Dahl, uncles, Kenneth Rainey, Stephen (Amber) Kinney, and Gabriel (Kelly) Barta, her grandmother, Betty Rainey, her godparents, Gregory and Theo Barta, her niece and nephew Lincoln and Zoey Barta, cousins Corlee (Adam) Erkkila, Brenna (Jack) Fagerland, Lillian Rainey, and Tiara, Dustin, Myah Kinney, her in laws, David Grygiel, Beth Thomas, Sara (Viviana) Herrera and Tiffanie Grygiel and many other family and friends.

Hannah will be greatly missed by her pets, her dog, Nova, and her cats, Snickers and Wendy.

She was greeted in Heaven by her grandparents, Rosemarie and Mark Gerlach and Carol Kinney; as well as adored pets, Goldie and Figment.

Hannah loved her family, cherished her friends, and utilized her fighting spirit in everything she did. Throughout school she was a member of band, the volleyball team, participated in track, was an enthusiastic Girl Scout, volunteered in the children’s program at church to name just a few. Her love for all things Jurassic Park, Grey’s Anatomy, hair color, tattoos, and Marvel was evident to anyone she shared those loves with.

As soon as she was old enough to work, Hannah did. From babysitting, to working at Subway, Potbelly, being a pharmacy tech at Walgreens and most recently a medical scribe at Illinois Eye Center. Hannah always took extreme pride in what she did. She absolutely loved showing people how much she cared for them during their time with her regardless of the job she was at. She was always so proud of the fact that she could put a smile on someone’s face that she could tell needed it that day.

When she was diagnosed with appendix cancer in September 2022, she only continued her own strong advocacy and strong-willed determination throughout her treatment, and being a symbol of awareness for a rare cancer. Throughout her journey, Hannah was determined to share with others the heartbreaking tragedy of this disease and to spread awareness to keep others from the same. Even when she found out that healing was not to happen on Earth, she continued to spread awareness to prevent others from the pain she felt.

Her fighting spirit, fierce, love and tender concern for those around her will be dearly missed.

Her memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. Monsignor Jason Gray will be the celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
