A viewing for family and friends will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21 at Grant Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Craig Cemetery.
Roy Dennis James was born the son of Pinkey Frank James & Maudie Iola (Rutherford) James on June 12, 1933 in Falkner, Mississippi. He spent his early childhood in Mississippi and moved to Arkansas with his family when he was 9 years old. He attended public schools in Amity, Arkansas, where he made many friends. He played football in his high school years. When he wasn’t going to school, he started learning a trade from his father on how to be a logger. Roy also enjoyed playing guitar with his brother’s when they were young.
Following his high school graduation, Roy joined the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and was proud of the service he was providing to his country.
On July 28, 1960 Roy married the love of his life, Anna Berniece Gallegos at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Kremmling, Colorado. To this union, two daughters were born. Berniece and Roy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
After retiring, Roy enjoyed reading, and he loved listening to music. Above all, he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who had the privilege to love and know him.
Roy is survived by his wife, Anna “Berniece” James of Craig; daughter, Venita “Jean” Goldstein of Craig; one granddaughter, Krystal Goldstein; one grandson Justin Wilcox and one great granddaughter, Kaley Rae Goldstein. Roy is further survived by a large extended family.
Roy was preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Ann James; his parents; and two brothers.
