27th, 2022 surrounded by people who loved her. She passed away at Memorial Regional
Health Center. Darby was born to Allen Eugene Winter and Frances “Fritz” Lee winter, in
Havre, MT on December 12th, 1954. She later became an older sister to Debra Ann Ranes
11 months later. Soon after Debra joined the family came Rodney Allen Winter and Randy
Earl Winter. She attended school in Havre for many years before they moved to Great
Falls, MT. After some time in Great Falls, they returned to Havre, and then moved to
Shelby, MT where Darby finished high school beginning her Junior year. After graduating
from high school Darby attended dental assistant school in Seattle, Washington. Upon
earning her dental assistant certification, she moved to Missoula MT and began working
for a dentist. While on a visit home to Shelby, Darby met her soon to be husband, Jerry
Lynn McDermott. They went on to have three children; Lyndi Smith, Bradley McDermott,
and Lisa Campbell. Life took them to many locations, but Craig became their home for
the last 35 years. Darby spent the last 16 years of her career working as an administrative
assistant for the CNCC Nursing Program. She impacted so many lives during her time at
CNCC. Working with future nurses and the nursing instructors was her calling. She
loved her job and it mattered to her so much. She felt it was her act of service and her
way of giving back to others. Darby is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and
Frances “Fritz” Winter, her brother Rodney Winter, her mother-in-law Dorothy McDermott, her nephew Max Winter, paternal and maternal grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and many cousins. She is survived by her husband Jerry McDermott, children; Lyndi Smith(Opie), Bradley McDermott(Amanda),
and Lisa Campbell(Nick) all of Craig, Co. She is also survived by her sister Debra
Ranes(Richard), brother Randy Winter(Julie), grandchildren; Heath Campbell, Ivy
Campbell, Allyn McDermott, Jackson Campbell, Kooper Campbell, Shelby Smith, Tanner
Smith, and Brennyn McDermott, as well as numerous cousins, and nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Craig Christian
Church, services to follow at 11:00 a.m., with a lunch reception at 12:00 p.m. In the
spring/summer of 2023 a graveside service will take place in Shelby, MT for those of our
friends and family in Montana that are unable to attend Saturday’s service. In lieu of
flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made payable to the Moffat County Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary.
