John Buckner Corrigan of Covington, Louisiana passed away on August 24, 2022 surrounded by his family at the age of 90. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 7, 1932. He lived in Pittsburgh briefly before his family moved to New Orleans. Johnny was the oldest of six and the son of the late Louise Buckner Corrigan and Charles Eugene Corrigan. He is survived by his wife Virginia Savers Corrigan, daughter Virginia Corrigan Nelson (Robert), Sean Michael Corrigan (Christine) and Mary Alice Savers Corrigan and his grandchildren, Regan, Sydney, Melita, Ran, Tess, Hughes, Letty and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Johnny was preceded in death by his three brothers Charles Eugene Corrigan, Jr., Thomas Hughes Corrigan, James Eustis Corrigan, and his two sisters, Louise Corrigan Heebe and Susan Corrigan Sutherlin.
Johnny lived in uptown New Orleans and attended Fortier High School. As a teen, he began to tinker with model railroading. He continued to collect trains, building train layouts throughout his life. While Johnny was in high school, he joined the Marine Corp Reserves. Two weeks after the Korean War broke out, Johnny shipped out. He spent what would have been his senior year of high school serving with the Marines in Korea.
While stationed overseas, Johnny took some of the first color pictures of Corsair airplanes and everyday life on two separate Marine Corp bases. These photographs have ended up in museums across the country, as well as several restaurants around New Orleans.
Following his return from Korea, Johnny attended Tulane University and was a member of the DKE Fraternity. While at Tulane, his father recruited him into the family business. He would start what would end up being a very successful fifty-year career as a Manufacturer Representative in the life safety and security industry.
Johnny truly enjoyed his time in sales as he traveled the South Central part of the United States, and he developed lifelong relationships from Florida to New Mexico.
Johnny enjoyed being a member of the Stratford Club, Juanita Club and other New Orleans Carnival organizations. He loved great food (and an Old Fashion), his New Orleans friends, his home in Tchefuncta Club Estates, and the many relationships he developed throughout his sales career. There will truly never be another like him, and he will be missed by all that knew him. Semper Fi.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you say a prayer for Johnny.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, LA 70447 on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM with visitation at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 AM.
