As a child I grew up next door to the Roney's about 30 years ago, and my family and I remember "Mr. Roney" fondly. We think it speaks volumes to the kind of person he was that he made such a long lasting impression on us. We grew up without our father, and I think Mr. Roney did what he could to have a positive influence on my brother and me; he helped teach me how to ride a bike.

I will miss Al very much, and on behalf of my family I extend my deepest condolences to the Roney family.

So sad to hear this.  Judy and I have many fond memories of our time together in Kamsack and others throughout the years.  He was so well liked, always with a smile and a sense of humour which we all enjoyed every day.  He will be missed but the memories remain.

My sincere condolences to Al’s entire family. I am truly saddened by his passing. I have so many fond memories of Al as commander of Bowmanville Detachment in the 90s. He really made the detachment a great place to work, We were one big happy family back then. He believed in hard work, but also in fun play. He led us through many successful investigations and rewarded us with friendly baseball matches. He treated everyone with respect and fairness, and always had a smile on his face. Our detachment was never the same after he left. He definitely was one of the RCMP’s best leaders and a genuinely great man. He will be missed by so many.

It is with sadness that June and I learned of Al's passing. When I took command of the RCMP's Kamsack, Saskatchewan Detachment in 1967 Al was one of the constables stationed there.  Al had been at this detachment for a  while and I relied on him for his knowledge of the detachment area and its residents. I could not have had a more level-headed man under my command than Al. His easy going ways inspired us all. Our sincere condolences go out to you Penny and your family.

So sorry  to hear of Al’s passing.   I was a baby Mountie when I worked on Al’s shift in St. John’s, NL in the early 70’s.  He was a good policeman and an all round good guy. Dear penny and family.  Al and I were pit partners in E troop in depot in 1966.  We were good buddies but unfortunately went to different parts of the country and lost touch over the years.  Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your loved one.

I had the privilege of having Inspector Roney as my boss and Detachment Commander for several years in the late 90's. I can say with all honesty that he was one of the best. Always had an open door policy which worked to encourage general goodwill at the Detachment.  He really did find a way to make us all feel appreciated( thank you Linda for reminder of the infamous green pen)  I feel fortunate to have met up with Al at a recent retirement "do" and discovered we each had a grandchild at the same school in Courtice.  I have kept an eye out for him ever since.   Very sad that he is no longer with us, but I'm sure he is still watching his grandchildren in spirit.   Rest in Peace Inspector Roney. 

Devastated to learn of the passing of this fine man.   My sincere condolences are extended to Penny and family.  Al and I worked together in RCMP Carman Sub Division, Manitoba.   He was the detachment commander of the RCMP in Morris MB.  I had the pleasure of being his Officer Commanding during the '80's.  He was respected and revered by his staff in Morris for his good nature and great human skills.  It was always a delight to stop and visit Al's detachment, both socially and professionally.  His spirit will rest easily in my fond memories of him.

I met Al in Thompson, Manitoba in 1979-80.  We immediately became friends and I enjoyed our comradeship in those Thompson years.  Although I lost track of Al some years later I always respected him for being the guy that he was.   RIP Al you will certainly be remembered.

I am reading in great sadness a member /friend of Al. We covered similar territory in our Service. We came to Live together In The Infamous Pink Apartments in Thompson Manitoba Canada. We were both New S/Sgts to Thompson. Al left Penny and the family in Southern Man. As I did   We became respectfully known as the Odd Couples. Al and I enjoyed great memories of our time together. Al loved Penny and his family.  We enjoyed talking and bragging about our family over a Social Libation. He was a very dedicated Member but more committed to family. I have so many great memories of Al in his Morris RCMP posting. I vividly recall him being at the office before the birds started singing and on top of everything before anyone else showed up for work. Best NCO I've had the opportunity to work with, and I have had many good ones. Al taught me so much and he treated everyone equally no matter the position. So many times he'd come into the main office area after going home for lunch and share some of the things his boys were up to. I still chuckle at some of those stories. Thank you Al for so many great memories that bring a smile to my face!

First, my condolences  to the entire Roney family. I had the pleasure to work under the command of Inspector Roney  at the Bowmaville Detachment .  He was a true role model for what a RCMP member ought to strive to emulate. He took the time and effort  to get to know every person , be it a member, public servant, and  or civilian employees under his command. He was thoughtful, kind,  and encouraging,  always willing to engage in  conversation, yet also knew how to get the most out of people. 
I , personally had the odd fire side chat  with Insp Roney and always came away feeling better for it.  I have nothing but fond memories of my time with this man.
In short, a  true gentleman who I know loved his wife and those three sons.

I am very saddened to learn of Al’s passing. I worked for Al in Bowmanville during his tenure there. Al was exactly the kind of leader the detachment needed. He encouraged us all to work together, play together and to be a team. He was a very nice man who always had a smile and a kind word. He sent a Christmas letter to his staff at Bowmanville every year and added a personal comment, in his infamous green pen, acknowledging our contribution(s)  to the success of the detachment. In my 36 years of service, he was the only supervisor to do that. Says a lot about the kind of man he was. Sincere condolences to Al’s entire family on the loss of your beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather & brother.

We always loved going over to visit him when dinner was over and we could see him sitting in his corner chair on the front porch. So many amazing childhood memories included him. He had a heart of gold, and looking back now that I’m older, you could really see how much he loved Penny and the boys. He will be greatly missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

How kind he was to my daughters and being the Grandpa they never had and how much I enjoyed our summer evenings on your front porch having a cold beer while we watched the neighbourhood kids play on your front lawn and waiting for Al to give them candies from his supply of candies.
