With great sorrow, the family announces the passing of Jean Christine Jackson in her 69th year on Thursday March 16th, 2023. Jean was the eldest daughter and third child of the late Rev. Walter Jackson and Joyce Jackson. Jean is predeceased by her grandson George Milner. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Tom Hitchins and children Sarah (Andrew Milner) and Steven (Dana). Jean is a cherished grandma to Charlie, Violet and Quinn. Jean will be missed by siblings Sam (Mary Ann), Jim (Ester), Robert (Dawn), Grace (Paul Bishop), Andrew (Danielle); and her many nieces and nephews. Jean graduated from Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing as a RN, and then received her BScN Degree from Windsor University. Jean went on to graduate with her MA Edu from Central Michigan University. Jean taught over 32 years as a Professor of Nursing at Durham College, where she made a difference and impacted so many past and current nurses. Jean was passionate about family life, travelling, the cottage and giving back to the community through her volunteer work. Jean will be sadly missed by her many friends. The family wish to thank Dr. Sharngoe, Dr. Mehta, the nurses and staff at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville 1 South and 2 South for the compassionate and professional care Jean received. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Murtada, Dr. Rana, Dr. Fatima and the staff at the Gain clinic.
All those touched by Jean’s strength, kindness and love are welcome to celebrate Jean’s life with us. Visitation will be held at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Durham Regional Hwy 2, Courtice on Sunday March 26th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Service of Remembrance will be held in the chapel on Monday March 27th at 10:30 am.
