Tess passed away peacefully at age 86 at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Comox in the early hours of Sunday August 16th, 2020 following a tough battle with lung cancer. A non-smoker, Tess did struggle with asthma for a good part of her later life, but it never stopped her from leading a full life.
Tess was an avid golfer, excellent swimmer and her serious hobbies included knitting and sewing, making her own clothes and clothing for others. She was also a good cook and a voracious reader. She loved to travel even solo, her last significant trip was to Austria with her granddaughter. On island, she enjoyed walking/hiking with Probus club, throwing darts, cycling, roller blading and spending time at places like Holmes Point, Seal Bay, the Spit, and the Air Park. Socially, she also enjoyed card and board games and of course a glass of wine or beer. A Seattle Sea Hawks fan, she loved music, had a great voice, and played piano very well.
Tess obtained a B.A. (1977) from Concordia University. She was active and independent until the very end and had developed many friends over the years especially in the Comox Valley who were near and dear to her, and some through her volunteer charitable work.
She was the loving wife of the late Thaddeus (Ted) Mead (2004) and partner of the late Max McClellan (2011). Tess met Ted in Grand Falls while working as a Bank teller at Bank of Montreal around 1952. Lived in Arvida, Grand-Mère and Two Mountains, Quebec.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Blackmore and Elizabeth Anne Power, her twin Madeline Carmel, sisters Beatrice (Betty), Margaret and Helen and brother Bert. She is survived by her brothers Robert (Bob) and Don Blackmore.
She leaves behind her two loving sons John (Laurie Kidd) and Brian (Nathalie Gallant), two grandchildren Lea (Louis-André LeBrun) and Jeremy (Longje Yan) one great grandson Gaspard.
