A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Norman “Al” Albers, passed away on June 6, 2017 surrounded by his family and the loving care of the nurses at Hospice at The Views. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, 77 years ago, Norm spent most of his life in Nova Scotia where he met his best friend and wife of 58 years, Geraldine (Terry) Noiles. Al served in the Navy as an engineer for 28 years and the Commissionaires for 13 years and was awarded the Medal of Honor. He was a true gentleman; a kind man; a fun loving man and a true friend to all that knew him. Dad never said an unkind word and his love and support of family and friends will travel with us all. He loved his hockey, “Go Toronto Maple Leafs” and his garden.
He was predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Gladys, and his brothers, Glenn, Lorne, and Richard. Norm is survived by his loving spouse, Terry; son, Todd; daughter, Cheri (Wu), Son-In-Law, Warren Wu and family; grandchildren, Tonya Lee (Albers) and Ayden; sister, Shirley Visentin; nieces and nephews; lifelong friend and buddy, Dennis Grimstead and Bonnie Patterson and extended family and friends.
A special thank you for the expertise and loving care to Dr. Emmott and the nurses at St. Joseph’s and hospice (Tosca, Liz and Marlene) and the nursing team at VIHA – truly angels. Also thank you to Veterans Affairs whose assistance enabled Norm to pass with dignity and peace of mind and Charmaine at Piercy’s Funeral Home for the guidance and support. Rest in Peace Granddad, you were so loved and will be in our thoughts and hearts every day. Grandma says “Goodnight my Prince”.
The Albers family requests memorial donations be made in Norm’s name to the Comox Valley Hospice Society – Hospice at The Views.
