Lee was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and grew up in the nearby farming community of Mossbank. She left home after high school graduation, worked a brief stint at a local Moose Jaw radio station and then joined the RCAF in 1951. A military career promised new adventures not only in Canada but overseas as well. Shortly after enlisting she met her future husband Doug at RCAF Station Clinton,ON. Military postings kept them apart but a long distance romance flourished and they married in 1954 in Metz, France. Their daughter Debbie was born the following year.
Never quite happy in the role of homemaker Lee found her strength and self confidence in the workplace. She took great pride in a job well done and a number of employers counted themselves lucky to have her in their workplace. Her various career paths were largely in the administrative and accounting fields but her most cherished career achievement was that of becoming a school teacher.
Lee was the family historian and had a strong passion for genealogical research. With dedication and extensive research she authored a book about her own Clement family history. It was an excellent resource for others to pursue their own family stories and as such her book sold enough copies to warrant a second run. In later years she took great pleasure in creating wonderful photographic journals for her grandchildren that will be enjoyed for years to come.
Lee’s all time favourite hobby was shopping and countless hours were devoted to cruising the clothing racks in various malls. She insisted on always presenting her “best” self and that included not only a fashionable wardrobe but impeccable hair. Dedicated to the adage that there must never be a hair out of place a bottle of “extra hold” hairspray was never far from reach! But once her personal grooming and dressing needs were satisfied, the allure of the Dollar Store took center stage.
Lee was a generous and kind soul who will be missed by her daughter Debbie Waite (Jim), grandchildren Jeff Waite (Andrea March), Jessica Waite (Will Schweig) and four beautiful great grandsons. She is survived by her sisters Donna Weiss (Harvey), Winnie Heinrichs (John), Diane Sully (Wayne) and brother Russell Clement. She is pre-deceased by her sister Joyce Lawrence. As per Lee’s request there will be no funeral.
