She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Bryan Korven, three children, Rebecca Korven (Aaron Andrews) of Sydney, N.S., Sara Mordue (Michael) of Maitland, Australia and Joshua Korven of Sydney, N.S., two grandchildren, Ocea and Kaia Mordue, and two sisters Sharon McAuley of Victoria, B.C. and Lynn Francis (Colin) of Saskatoon, S.K. She was predeceased by her parents George and Theresa McAuley of Saint John, N.B.
Cathy was born in Amherst, N.S. but lived in Montreal, Toronto and Winnipeg before marrying and moving to BC in 1979. Cathy had a passion for art since childhood and spent her life capturing the beauty around her in watercolour, oil and photography. She was a member of the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists. Her paintings have been selected for exhibition in juried galleries across Canada and she received awards from the Federation of Canadian Artists. Cathy Korven’s art can be found in collections in Japan, Europe and across North America.
Cathy was a true inspiration to all who knew her. She was a kind, gentle, loving soul. She focused on her abilities instead of dwelling on her disabilities, showing incredible strength, determination and passion for life despite her debilitating illness. Though the last ten years of her life brought many challenges, she continued to travel with her husband Bryan to Italy, France, Mexico, Australia and the East Coast of Canada and to produce art and photography up until a week before she died. She loved her family deeply and saw beauty and miracles in everything around her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
We would like to thank all of the careworkers and nurses that helped to keep her comfortable and at home for the last 10 months of her life. Donations in Cathy Korven’s memory can be made to the Huntington’s Society of Canada or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
