Wesley Pickett Dorough

Wesley Pickett Dorough passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022 in Live Oak County, at the age of 101. Pickett was born in Cotulla, Texas on July 22, 1920 to Bunny Shook Dorough and Georgia Tobin Dorough.

He grew up in Blanco County and graduated from High School in Cotulla in 1940. On October 4, 1942 he married the love of his life Avis Anderson and was married 75 years. January, 1942 Uncle Sam drafted him into the Army. He served in the Army Air Force Engineers in the Azores Island (Europe front) and Saipan and Okinawa on the Pacific front. He was discharged in 1945, he returned to Cotulla where he was a contractor, he built homes before he went to work for DPS, until he retired.

He was an active member in the Masonic Lodge and received his 75-year award in March, 2022. He has taught hundreds of Masons the lectures to become Masons. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. He loved to fish, hunt, hunting arrow heads and enjoying nature.

He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings. George Dorough, was killed in WWII, Robbie Lee Fitting and Coney Dorough; son in law, Dexter Sigler.

Pickett is survived by two daughters, Dixie Baker (Larry) of Live Oak County, Doris Sigler of Cotulla, Texas; his four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by four nieces; one nephew; God son, Len Arche; and special family friend Dick Mitchell.

The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. John Paul and Dr. John Edward Schultz for their many years of excellent care and to Gracia Hospice wonderful Nurses and CNA.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Life for Pickett on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home 8200 Old Brownsville Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.

Pallbearers will be his beloved grandsons, great-grandsons and grandson-in-law.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Shriners Children Hospital, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas and First United Methodist Church in Cotulla.
