Viola Barrientos Guerra, 70, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 23, 2013 and joins her husband in heaven. She was born in Corpus Christi, TX on November 20, 1942. She graduated in 1962 from West Oso H.S. and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend. She fought a yearlong battle with cancer and put up the toughest most courageous fight for her life until the end without a tear. We are so proud of her courage, strength and will to live life to the fullest. She was always young at heart and full of energy.
Viola enjoyed talking about her memories of West Texas and growing up in the cotton fields as a young girl. She especially enjoyed playing the slot machines in Louisiana, buying lottery scratch tickets and winning. She was always a treasure hunter at garage sales and Goodwill and enjoyed selling her treasures. Viola loved fishing, cooking, listening to the oldies, her novelas and was proud of her tamales which were the best on earth. She especially loved her children, granddaughter, cats and would do anything for them.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert P. Guerra; her parents, Polito and Maria P. Barrientos; brother, Leopoldo Barrientos and sister, Irma Guillen.
She leaves behind her daughter, Marisel Guerra; her sons, Gilbert and Gary Guerra; granddaughter, Sierra Guerra and her beloved pets. Also surviving her are her brothers, Mario Barrientos (Aurora), Tomas Barrientos (Corina), Alfredo Barrientos (Grace) and sister, Irene Gomez (David).
Our mother was the best, most unselfish and caring mom to us. We were blessed to have her and enjoyed every minute with her in our lives. We love her very much and will miss her dearly, and one day we will all be reunited with her and dad in heaven.
We would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, assistants and clergy at the Spohn Shoreline Neuro ICU for their care of our mother during these difficult months, and our employers, friends and family. A special thank you to Father Ralph from Stella Maris Chapel in Rockport for his blessings, prayers, healings and presence in her life, and also special friend, Michelle Spencer, we will be forever grateful.
The family will be receiving friends at Funeraria del Angel on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening.
