Viola Bazan

Mom was born on May 8, 1929, in Alice, Texas to Juan and Maria Cardenas. Growing up mom’s love for music and dance filled her soul. She was in many dance contests winning trophies for her sassy jitter bug moves. When she was 16 years of age, she married our dad, Manuel Bazan, and together they had 6 wonderful children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had so much love to give and she shared it freely with each of us. One of Mom’s gifts was her way of connecting with us all.

When Mom lost Daddy and all her children were grown and married, she set out on her path of self-di scovery. She blossomed and discovered her skill in arts and crafts, gifting us some of her works of art. She traveled visiting many places and creating many memories for herself. Mom was a huge believer in “giving back” and education. She gave back to the community by volunteering at Driscoll Children’s Hospital and then serving 25 years with the Foster Grandparent Program. Here she found a true love in helping all the teachers she worked with, principals she befriended, even had a chance to work with her granddaughter Stephanie at her favorite school Zavala Elementary and loved all the children she assisted. She loved being called “Granny Bazan” and won many awards and certificates which she was so proudly displayed in her home.

Her love for sports was a great past time for her. She loved baseball and football and of course her Dallas Cowboys. For years she followed the Cowboys and would share her knowledge of their players and stats. Her last favorite DC player was Jason Witten.

On December 11, 2024, at the age of 95 Mom joined her husband Manuel Bazan Sr, children Manuel Bazan Jr, and her daughter Diana Bazan. Her children she left behind to continue her legacy and honor her memory are Cindy Bazan, Juanita (Leonel) Lopez, David (Rose) Bazan, Suzie Canales, and Isabel Bazan. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her heart, and was even present when her grandchild, Catherine, was born. It is now up to us to live life to its fullest as she did and give back as she did as well.

She wanted to especially thank her team from Gentiva Hospice. They provided the best medical care and helped her to keep her dignity in her last few months of her. Also, a personal thank you to her personal provider who sat with her every day keeping her company, keeping her out of mischief, and making sure she ate. Thank you, Dr. Nguyen, Monica, Andrea, Isabel, Rosie, Elia, and her PCP FNP Bradon Macias.

Mom lived life to the fullest and even though her mind and body suffered the side effects of Dementia, her spirit and love for us all remained strong.

A visitation for Viola will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Everhart, 4901 Everhart Rd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78411. A holy rosary will occur Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 4901 Everhart Rd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78411. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2509 Nogales St., Corpus Christi, Texas 78416. A burial will occur Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 11:30 AM.
