Tommy and I went to school in McKinney, Texas in the high school class of 1961. While I was looking up addresses to invite everyone to our 61st reunion, I was so sad to read about Tommy’s illness and death. He was so smart, always cheerful and athletic and one of the smartest people I ever met. Bless all of you. All our classmates and I send our sympathy and blessings. 


My sincerest condolences to Rochelle and family during this difficult time. I was blessed to have the opportunity to spend time with Tommy and I will forever be inspired by his bravery, positivity, patience and kindness even as he fought the ravages of his disease.  I'm touched by the devotion of his wife and family and the grace and dignity Tommy displayed every day.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and I wish you healing and comfort as you look back at a life of joy and happiness together.

Shelly, first and foremost I wanted to say how sorry I am to hear the loss of Tommy and that Darla and I have you in our thoughts.  As mentioned before this is hard times for you but always remember Tommy is in a safe place, he will always be in our thoughts.  I wanted to write a short story about my time with Tommy. I met Tommy at Centurylink when he hired me as a technician to work in the central office.  I worked with Tommy for ten years until he made the GREAT choice to retire and enjoy his time with his friends and family.  Not only was Tommy my boss and taught me everything I know but he became a great friend.  Tommy would always go out of his way to help me in any way he could, too long of list to write.  There is one thing that stands out the most, one day Tommy called me into the office on my day off, all I could think about on the drive to the office is what did I do wrong.  I thought for sure that was the last day at work.  Come to find out when I got to the office Tommy had a Harley Davidson book that he wanted to show me, inside the book was a picture of the new Harley he just ordered, I can’t begin to tell you how happy I was for the BOTH of us, I kept my job and Tommy purchased a Harley!  In the years to come Shelly and Tommy went on a few Harley runs with us, yes Shelly too.  Tommy this picture is of great times, I will miss you.

Shelly, just wanted you to know I am thinking of you. I know how hard this is and will be on you. Life will never be the same, but knowing Tommy is no longer suffering can give you peace. Tommy or Mr. Tommy as the boys called him was a wonderful person. He was a gift to Darrel when Darrel lived there. He was always willing to help when needed and Darrel thought the world of him. I wish I could tell you this in person, but I won't be able to make it to the service. Just know my thoughts and prayers are with you. I can say time helps with the pain, but it never goes away. However, my memories of Ronnie carry me through each day and your will carry you. May God give you strength for each day. Rachel Vaughn
