She is survived by her husband, two children, a sister, a brother-in-law, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by many dear friends, especially Tom and Joan Salazar. Joan and Teresa were close buddies for well over 50 years (dating back to middle school together).
A few months before Teresa graduated from Ray High School in 1975, a friend introduced her to Bill Krell, who was just about seven years older than she was. Although she pursued him for a while, he thought she was just a flirty kid. But when she got mad about that and started to ignore him, he became the pursuer. They dated for a short time before she graduated in May, and then had to move to England with her parents. Even though they had only known each other a short time, they were very much in love. So, Bill went to England to get her so she could get an apartment, go to college, and they could continue dating. After he arrived, they were sightseeing in Norwich, England and Bill noticed a Registrar’s Office. He asked Teresa what she thought you would need to do to get married in England. Well, that was his proposal and it resulted in a honeymoon in London and a wonderfully blessed marriage of over 47 years. Church parents probably did not want them to mention how long they dated before marriage; but it certainly worked for Teresa and Bill.
The couple eventually moved to Lubbock, Texas and attended the Sunset Schools of Preaching and Missions from 1977-1980. They both then graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1985. Teresa obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and Bill received a MA in Bible, and a Master of Divinity Degree. When Bill preached in Somerset, Pennsylvania for several years, Teresa was very involved in many church activities.
They both eventually became certified to teach when Bill and Teresa returned to Corpus Christi to help take care of his mother. Teresa taught for the Corpus Christi Independent School District at Allen, Lexington, Blanche Moore, and Windsor Park Schools. She was named the “Elementary School Teacher of the Year” for 2003-2004 for the entire district. She later taught at St. James for several years until she retired.
Teresa will be remembered for her artistic creativity, her amazing cooking, her beautiful singing voice, her voracious reading, but most of all, for her strong faith.
Teresa, Bill, and their son, Evan have been involved in numerous churches of Christ. They enjoyed spending their time together as a family - fishing, riding bikes, shopping, traveling, and providing the most gracious hospitality to all of their friends.
The family will have a private service of remembrance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kings Crossing Church of Christ Prison Ministries.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MemoryGardensFuneralHome.com for the Krell family.
