Rodessa, 96 years of age, entered the Pearly Gates of Heaven on November 8, 2024 with her children by her side. A descendant of Seminole Negro Indian Scouts, she was born on December 14, 1927 in Brackettville TX to Willie and Melinda Williams.
She was the granddaughter of Seminole Scouts Renty Grayson, Bill Williams and Morall Hall. She was Baptized at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Brackettville TX. She graduated from Carver School in Brackettville, and then went on to San Antonio where she graduated from St. Peter Claver in 1947. She moved to Corpus Christi, TX in 1947, working for the Weisman and Phillips Families.
She will be remembered for her Love of God, her Catholic Faith, and her devotion to her family. She loved gardening, baking, and crocheting. Arthur Jones took her many places in the United States and Canada. She joined Holy Cross Catholic Church in 1947 where she made many friends, and worked many Bar-B-Q's. In the early days, Rodessa was a member of the Holy Cross Choir, a member of the Altar Society, and she was a member of the Knights & Ladies of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary.
She married Walter T. Shaw in 1952 at Holy Cross Church; after Walter's passing she married Arthur T. Jones in 1994 at Holy Cross Church. She worked at Spohn Hospital as a Nurses Assistant and retired after 25 years of service where at one time, Spohn awarded her "Employee of the Year". She loved her co-workers and patients.
Rodessa was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Melinda Williams; and grandmother who raised her, Annie Vivas Williams; her first husband, Walter T. Shaw, and second husband, Arthur T. Jones; brother, Jessie Daniels; niece, Brenda Wilson; and nephews, John and Milton Davis.
She leaves to cherish in her memory, her children, son Terry (Glenda) Shaw, and daughter Cynthia E. Shaw; and a son whom she raised, Arthur B. Jones, all of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Pauline Davis of Houston, Texas; niece, Mrs. Jonell Jackson of Houston Texas; cousins, Mrs. Jean Frierson of Los Angeles, CA, and Mrs. Linda Wytch- Moreaux of Spencer, OK, John, Joe and Tommy Wytch, all of Spencer, OK; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who love her dearly.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 9 PM on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, with a Holy Rosary to begin at 7 PM that same evening. Continued Visitation will begin at 10 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1109 N. Staples St., where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM. Rite of Committal and Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
