It is with great love and sadness that the family of Renee Keys announces her passing on April 7, 2023, at the age of 66 years.
She was born in Evansville, Indiana on April 9, 1956 to Albert and Bonnie Slanis. She lived in many amazing places including Brisbane, Australia; Tripoli, Libya; and London, United Kingdom. She attended The American School in London where she was an avid athlete. She was the Varsity Swim Captain and was also on the track team. Renee attended Elmira College in Elmira, New York, and State University College of New York at Brockport where she studied computer science with a minor in dance. After college, she worked as a wireline analyst for Schlumberger; she later worked in the IT Department at Citgo. In 1996, she took a leap of faith and resigned to stay home with her children. Renee was an involved member of River Hills Baptist Church. She served on the hospitality committee, taught Vacation Bible School, biblical counseling, and participated in bible study and small group. She was loved there by so many.
Renee loved rain and thunderstorms as much as she loved cool, sunny days. She loved birds, nature and flowers, pearls, and any TV show about animals. She enjoyed “vegging out” and spending time with her family. She is described by those who adored her as the most genuine and caring friend, a young spirit who loved without judgement, and someone who was always there with a loving ear and a Bible verse to help along the way. She was funny, supportive and always devoted to giving to someone in need. She will always be remembered for being fearless and fun.
Renee is survived by her son, Cody (Bonnie) Keys, and her daughter, Courtney Keys. She will be deeply missed by her five grandchildren: Kenzi, Rylee, Luke, Charlie, and Kollyn. They were the light of her life. Renee is also survived by her siblings: Mark (Barbara) Slanis, Bruce (Ann) Slanis, Teresa (Don) Brady, and Amy Slanis (Nathan Pritchard), as well as her former husband, Gary Keys.
A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home (8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78415). A Memorial Service will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home at 2:30 PM.
